Each year the Keilor Park Football Club community provide support for those less fortunate. Last year we supported families of ill children through Ronald McDonald House Charities and this year we are proud to support the Melbourne Homeless Collective Charity and the support they provide children through their ‘The School Project’ initiative.
THE SCHOOL PROJECT
A great initiative setup by the Melbourne Homeless Collective is to provide NEW school supplies for children in crisis accommodation and in foster care who have fled family violence and living with no stable accommodation.
This year the charity made over 700 school bags for kids living in foster care and crisis accommodation and they still need to make up more. They are in desperate need of new donations to help get kids ready for the 2018 school year.
Having the right gear means kids don’t miss out on schoolwork or homework, they feel more included and are less likely to miss days off school.
So when you’re stocking up for the school year or filling out the book lists, please consider adding an extra couple of pens or pencils to the shopping list. It means the world of difference to kids less fortunate.
HOW CAN WE HELP?
Please hand any donations from sharpeners to back packs and everything in between (pens, pencils, lunch boxes etc…) directly to Peter or Teresa anytime, either at the club during training times or at our home. We’ll make sure they get to the charity.
Any questions or assistance, please contact – Peter McGrady – 0414 444 205 – EMAIL
The charity does have a policy of only accepting NEW items for children (calculators excepted), as the children they support are already in such vulnerable positions, their self-esteem is usually very low and receiving someone’s second hand or used items can sometimes make them feel worse.
Thank you all for helping Victoria’s most vulnerable kids.
